Scaffolding The Globe Theatre

A full scale temporary working replica of Shakespeare’s Second Globe Theatre has been built by Camelspace in Auckland for Pop Up Globe Auckland. Using Layher Allround Scaffolding system and Camelspace’s Seating Elements with timber and corrugated iron cladding the replica theatre will accommodate 900 people and over 100m² of staging.

Precision engineering theatre

Mick Spratling from Camelspace said this has been a challenging project matching the 400yr old building dimensions in a short build time (30 days) and client’s expectations whilst adhering to the engineer’s requirements, which has been achieved. The client is extremely happy with the finished result, the building is within mm’s of the original 400yr old building, the acoustics are incredible and to see the building pop-up in just 30 days is amazing.

Globe scaffold quality

Camelspace Commercial Director Phil McConchie commented “You can’t do something like this out of any system other than Layher. No other manufacturer has the event component range and frankly, you need to be certain of the scaffold quality and load capacity when you are building something to seat 900 members of the public, including children, over three levels and still want to sleep soundly each night!”
