Hydro demolition scaffold
TPL Access were contracted by Freyssinet NZ to provide safe access to 33m tall cement silos. Silo’s 3 – 6, located at the Golden Bay Cement plant in Portland, Whangarei, required heavy duty scaffolding for a life extension project that involved hydro demolition, specialist concrete and post tensioning works.
Climbing to a height of 35m the scaffold had 1.57m wide working platforms along with loading platforms at each level.
Nick McMaster from TPL Access said “we used 5 men and a GEDA 500 hoist to build each of these silos over three weeks.”
Nick continued “using Layher’s steel lapping planks fastened with bolts, instead of wooden boards, made this scaffold safer and faster to install.”
Freyssinet said they found TPL Access’s access solution effective, and provided a solid foundation for their works to commence on the large structure. TPL Access completed the project over 5 consecutive years.
