Amazing Race Camera Tower
MAC Services were asked to build a camera tower for the Amazing Race reality television show! Director of Operations at MAC Services, Lucas Leask explains, “our team was tasked to build an 8m high camera tower to film a challenge.”
“During filming the TV show, contestants were faced with a tricky challenge involving cars suspended 10 metres over an Otago lake. The main challenge we faced was building a solid structure on the lake shoreline – which allowed us to get up close and personal for the film shoot. Also, we needed to take extra care building on swampy ground and positioning the scaffold to avoid the slew radius of the crane and the attached jig,” said Luke.
Luke continued, “we used 3 tonnes of concrete ballast to rack back the front legs of the scaffold from potential sinking and additional legs were attached off the shoreline for additional support. The Layher Allround Scaffolding System held its own and provided a safe and sturdy structure where there could be zero movement for the camera crew on film day.”
To conclude, Luke said the production team were very impressed with the stability of the platform that MAC Services had built, and that it had enabled the shoot to progress without a hitch.
Thank you to MAC Services for the use of these photos.
