Makatote Viaduct Project
TBS Farnsworth is the main contractor for the restoration of the historic Makatote viaduct project for Kiwirail situated 12km south of National Park on the main trunk railway. The 107 year old structure is 262 metres long and 79 metres above the Makatote River. TBS Farnsworth are using Layher Allround Scaffolding and Layher Aluminium Trusses on this challenging project.
Extreme weather viaduct
High wind loads and extreme weather in the winter provide a challenging environment for the 200+ tonnes of scaffold in use. Layher’s engineers provided initial concept design assistance and Graham Matthews from TBS Farnsworth said the Layher Scaffold provided clean high quality access to the works and the Geda Hoist along with the complex scaffold worked well together.
No interruption project
The client is very happy with the project and high quality of work which is ahead of programme with no interruption to KiwiRail operations.
Thank you to TBS Farnsworth for the use of these photos.
