Wellington District Court Upgrade
T he Wellington District Court has undergone a $20 million upgrade to create a more modern, safe environment and improve access to justice services. As part of this project, Geeves Scaffolding (Wellington) was awarded the contract to provide safe access for tradespeople and weather protection throughout the four-stage, 14-month construction process.
Enhanced Access and Protection
Tim Geeves of Geeves Scaffolding explained that a key aspect of winning the contract was the innovative rolling roof design. “We used the Layher Mobile Roof System and Layher Allround to create a flexible weather protection system,” Tim said. “The mobile roof allowed us to reposition the entire canopy quickly and conveniently for different project stages with minimal effort.”
Typically, a crane would be required during construction for such a task, but the Geeves team was able to build the mobile roof from a birdcage scaffold over the building. Additionally, a GEDA hoist significantly sped up the build process, ensuring that scaffolders could work both safely and efficiently.
During the preparation and planning phase, the design was crucial for the client, as it needed to be approved by the Ministry of Justice. “The design gave our client a clear understanding of what the scaffold would look like,” Tim concluded.
A special thank you to Geeves Scaffolding (Wellington) for providing these project photos.
