Lightweight West Wave
Located in Henderson Auckland, West Wave Pools have been upgrading their ceiling and lighting. The new and improved lighting will not only make West Wave Pools a better option for competitive swimming and diving, but it would also make swimming safer by giving pool lifeguards better vision of the water.
During the five-month upgrade project, Auckland Council requested the work be carried out with minimal disruption to the West Wave pool services and leisure facilities.
South Pacific Scaffolding, in collaboration with Aspec Construction, undertook the remarkable task of constructing a birdcage for light replacements ahead of the World Diving Championships late 2022. What was a complex scaffold project was made more difficult by the extensive back propping and work done around the dive board area.
Significantly reduced build time
The design, construction, and financing of the project were meticulously thought out before committing. Jarrod Radcliffe from South Pacific Scaffolding said “we opted for the Layher Allround Lightweight Scaffolding solution over trusses or other methods, for its strengths and adaptability and by using an experienced team of designers, we significantly reduced the build time.”
“Our design approach stood out by employing Layher Lightweight scaffolding in a self-supporting cantilever configuration. Without the need for trusses or ties, we achieved optimal stability for the birdcage, spanning just shy of 16.5 meters.” said Jarrod.
Two days ahead of schedule
“The scaffold construction was a testament to our efficiency and quality standards. With a team of six skilled individuals, we completed the project two days ahead of schedule. Utilising Layher LW played a significant role in the reduction of cost and project efficiency. Plus, Layher pneumatic wheels were used to transport equipment throughout the indoor pool on the “irreplaceable” tiles without incident.”
South Pacific Scaffolding’s commitment to being a carbon-zero company further contributed to the project’s environmental sustainability. South Pacific Scaffolding has held its Carbon Zero status for going on four years. They measure and offset all our carbon emissions and have gained Toitū accreditation.
Environmental sustainability
Environmental sustainability is a key consideration throughout their business and assists them in their daily business. “By utilising the Layher Allround Lightweight Scaffolding system, we leveraged its inherent benefits such as reduced weight, and optimised transportation. Layher is a key partner in our Carbon Zero future”, said Jarrod.
Adam Tyrie, from Aspec Construction, a client of 25 years, said on LinkedIn, “Brace yourselves…! This awesome scaffold structure has been erected over the dive pool ahead of time by South Pacific Scaffolding Limited to provide access so Aspec Construction can refurbish the ceiling and lights at West Wave, Henderson. It’s worth a special trip to the pool (bring your togs) just to see the scaffold!”
