Scaffold using less gear

Safe Scaffolding were contracted by Keyway Construction to provide access to a Brandon Street building in central Wellington. Measuring 40 metres tall by 21 metres long, the scaffold weighed 19 tonnes. It was 1 metre wide at the front with 0.732 and 0.45 on the sides, due to the wall sloping in.

Less scaffolding

Phil Parahi from Safe Scaffolding said “being able to use Layher’s Allround Lightweight scaffolding system allowed us to build from the ground up, instead of using brackets or propping the lower-level floor. With the glass skylights and air conditioning units on the front face, we were able to cantilever the front 1.09 bays using Layher diagonal bracing, which saved us using a lot of gear.”

3D model, plans and gear list

Phil continued, “during the build process, being able to go through the 3D model and the plans with the guys helped everyone get on the same page. This sped up efficiency, and by having the correct gear list, it made it easy for the yard man to get the stillages all ready for the crane.”

Regarding Layher’s design team, Phil commented, “the guys were awesome. We had to change the plan a few times. This was due to the air condition units and skylights on the roof. Landing legs was difficult. It was really beneficial to be able to work on the plan, and forward to the client, as he was the engineer in charge of finalising the maximum total weight allowed on the roof.”
