Historic Waterfront Crane

WorkZone was engaged by Wellington City Council to erect a scaffold on this historic crane on the Wellington waterfront. The scaffold enabled repair and maintenance work to be carried out.
This project presented a number of challenges, including the crane cab and boom which was not set at a 90 degree angle to the base. This meant the scaffold needed to accommodate different working face angles as it was built up.

Crane boom moves

Kurt Simpson of WorkZone explained, “Layher [Allround] scaffold was able to accommodate these changes by utilising wider transoms, deck to deck transoms and deck to ledger transoms. Even with all these changing deck positions WorkZone still managed to maintain a safe working platform for the client. In addition, the scaffold needed to be self-supporting, as the crane boom moves in the notorious Wellington wind.“
